Mississauga Podiatrist vs Chiropodist

One of the most common questions I get from patients is "the difference between a Podiatrist and a Chiropodist."

If we look at our professional titles, Podiatrists are titled as DPM, while Chiropodist are either DCh or D.Pod.M. Though the major difference lies in the degree education where Podiatrists can perform bone surgeries and communicate a diagnosis, whereas, Chiropodist can only perform surgeries in the cutaneous tissues. However, since both Podiatrists and Chiropodists are regulated under the same college (College of Chiropodist of Ontario), the essential treatment and care are the same in Ontario.

Long story short, it is in the best interest of both Podiatrists and Chiropodists to take care and maintain your foot health. Insurance companies usually cover both Mississauga Chiropody and Podiatry Services. However, patients should verify the details with their own insurance plan.

This was such an informative post! Many people don’t realize the real difference between podiatrists and chiropodists, so your explanation really helps clear the confusion. The way you explained their roles under the same Ontario college shows how modern podiatry practices ensure consistent and regulated care for patients. It’s also good to know that both specialists focus on long-term foot health, whether it’s through surgery or preventive care. I especially liked the reminder about checking insurance coverage — that’s often overlooked. Articles like this make advanced chiropody treatments easier for readers to understand and appreciate.

I’ve seen real improvement in foot comfort with Podiatry and Chiropody formulas.
